Robbie B. Leonard, MS, PT
Robbie B. Leonard, PT, MS is a Physical Therapist. Mrs. Leonard received her B.S. Degree in Microbiology from Clemson University and her M.S. Degree in Physical Therapy from Duke University and has over 22 years of clinical & administrative experience in various rehabilitation, educational, and administrative positions, including the Shepherd Center, Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation and The Medical University of South Carolina. She currently serves as the Vice President of Talent & Development for Proaxis Therapy and Howard Head Sports Medicine. Mrs. Leonard has extensive experience teaching administrative content and has taught courses on Medicare and reimbursement for over 14 years. She has received several teaching awards including the 2008 SC AHEC Educator of the Year, the 2003 J. Dale Pounds Award for a person who makes significant impact on the physical therapy students of Western Carolina University, the 2000 MUSC College of Health Professions Teacher of the Year Award and the 2000 MUSC Health Science Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award for Developing Faculty.
Course Description:
This course is designed for outpatient physical therapists, and occupational therapists who are interested in learning more about proper documentation and the rules and regulations that govern documentation for key payers such as Medicare. The course will include best practices for documentation for communication, risk management and meeting federal and state rules and regulations. There will be an emphasis on the Medicare rules and regulations as well as documentation of medical necessity. Medical necessity is a focus area of the Medicare RAC process for 2011.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key elements of documentation for providing medical necessity, meeting regulations and decreasing risk.
- Understand the regulations associated with documentation (specifically Medicare).
- Describe the typical problems with documentation.
- Develop strategies for improving clinical documentation.
